You'll love their absolute comfort zone and the amiable squabbling over toppings. Delightful humor and sparkling dialogue written in the classic Tallulah Rasa style will have you smiling, if not laughing aloud... and possibly, hungry for pizza! :)

"What was it this time?" Sam asked, zeroing in on a dangling string of cheese and flicking it back into place. "Tricky translation? Long-running briefing? A mysterious something that could have been an artifact from the Ancient-Furling-Nox alliance, but turned out to be the galactic equivalent of a stink bomb?"

"Once. That happened once," Daniel returned automatically.

It's not just what we see on-screen, either; Aurora deftly fleshes out the story with with extra scenes and insight that brings both Bill and the story into vivid, vibrant life. It's always fun to read a good outsider's POV, and Bill is just enough on the inside - and the outside! - to give us the best of both worlds.

Long, satisfying, and full of character, Just a Scientist is a fic that you're sure to enjoy.

"The language is ancient. I don't know what it says." I tell the truth and lie in the same breath. The language is Ancient, but Rafael would not know what that means. The now hysterical side of my brain toys with that idea. Maybe the rebels would think I was nuts and stop torturing me if I told them about the Goa'uld.

"You go to all this trouble to find it, and you don't know what it says? I find that hard to believe."

"It's not b-n seen f-r th--nds of ye--rs." I can barely get the words out between my choked coughs. Rafael waits impatiently until my breathing steadies to a constant wheeze.

"You must have some idea. You must know what the symbols mean."

I shake my head. "I can't read it. I don't know."

"If you don't know..." Rafael looks past me towards the hut where Daniel's held.

"No." My denial is too quick. Daniel can't go through this again.

"I do not believe you. I think you protect your friend."

"We were just the retrieval team," I bluster.

"I think your friend knows. I think he will tell me. He will help me make it work."

"He won't. He doesn't...We won't help you."

"You tell me things to save him. He tells me things to save you. It's all the same. I will find out."

"I won't help you. You don't know what you're asking." Daniel's warning just before we set off the booby trap is screaming in my mind as Rafael carelessly handles the device.

"I know what I'm asking. I'm asking for information that will help us regain our heritage. You are a smart man. You can figure out the artifact, and you WILL help me."

"No." The shock shatters my nerves again. I feel it even through my tooth fillings. When the current finally subsides, I glare at Rafael. "I won't help you. It's too dangerous."

Rafael seems puzzled and annoyed at my newfound resolve. "Dangerous? According to you it's a box from a long dead god. I do not see a danger," he spits.

I feel like telling him about the aliens again. Then I'm inspired. "It's cursed."

"Cursed?"

"The legends we read said that could steal a person's soul." Okay, I'm extrapolating from the legends, but I'm still well aware of Daniel's warnings of "madness and addiction." Rafael's got to stop fooling with this device. Even if I'm killed, he can't know anything more. It's too dangerous.

The reaction to my words is immediate. Chalo drops the controls to my torture and steps away from Rafael, making the sign of the cross. I see the other rebels move a little further back out of my peripheral vision. Rafael sets the cube back down on the table. "You are a scientist. You do not believe in superstition."

I've seen fireflies burn through a human body in an instant. I've traveled through wormholes to other planets. I've conducted missing person searches by studying alien transporter technology. All things thought fiction and superstition by most modern scientists. "You'd be surprised what I believe."

Written with deft humor and affectionate friendship, we follow Daniel's rambling "scientific method" as he catalogs ice cream habits, mannerisms, and Sam's romantic history in his effort to get to the truth. With lovely characterization and an extra touch of team love, Cabbages and Kings is a delightful fic that is sure to leave you smiling!

Full disclaimer: I got to beta this one. Lucky me, eh? :)

So now I’m getting twitchy, and I have a very Jack-like desire to start singing something random and annoying from Sesame Street, just to break the tension in this car. I won’t, of course, because Sam’s driving, and her driving is only moderately less offensive than Jack’s. The last thing I want is to cause an accident.

Think, Daniel. Twitching is not going to solve anything, but the IQ just on this side of the car should be up to figuring out how to solve Sam’s nerves, even if Sam’s being no help. What is it that’s got her so worked up? Maybe I should go at this her way—scientific method and all.

Did we encounter any situations in the last three days in which one or more of us on SG-1 was in mortal peril? Well, Jack annoyed the hell out of that chieftain, the one with all the pins on his vest—Narvo, that’s it. Nearly got himself turned into a carnival attraction, but that was pretty much par for the course for us. So it’s not a ‘you nearly died, Daniel, let me feed you cookies!’ kind of twitch. Pity. Her chocolate fudge drops are incredible.

The twist in perception here is perfectly Daniel, especially with the parallels he draws. And Sam is the perfect friend - no sugarcoating the situation, but just being there, with the promise that they'll both be there for each other in the future.

No episode tag to Hathor could ever be a really happy one, but Penknife gets this one just right.

"How was your day?"

Daniel busied himself re-wrapping his burrito. "Is that an actual question, or are we being macho as usual?"

"Women in the Air Force get a special dispensation from being macho," Sam said seriously. "10 U.S.C. 775."

Daniel glanced up, looking like he half-believed her. "Really?"

"No. I think that's something about uniform issue."

"This is military humor?"

"Would you prefer physics humor? These range from angsty (Daniel's year in Omaland) to touching (George wanting Teal'c to have the day off) to adorable (Sam and her boys!) to whumpage (Jack in prison, Mitchell in the infirmary.) It's all written with Kellifer's deft touch and lovely characterization, and it's guaranteed to make you smile!

“Birthdays are supposed to be spent just sitting around on my couch, guzzling beer and eating pizza. Not, I repeat not in a Goa’uld cell waiting for the latest gaudily dressed bad guy to come down and tell us that he has finally defeated the Tau’ri.”

“I too find our current predicament troubling, O’Neill,” Teal’c allows. “But if it were a choice between this and watching your sport of ice and large sticks, I would choose this.”

Escape through the Stargate."

Teal'c could barely turn back to his friend. He had expected this resistance, grateful Daniel Jackson had merely followed in shock after Teal'c had fired on Apophis's queen, but now his friend was processing events, and resisting. This was the man who had begged to become a host merely to stay with Sha're, the man who had insisted upon remaining while she gave birth to a false god's child.

Teal'c could not look at Daniel Jackson because if he did, he would relent. He had sworn an oath to reunite Sha're and Daniel Jackson. Before, his guilt regarding Sha're had been abstract–knowing he had chosen an innocent woman to be Amaunet's host, the beloved of a man he was now honored to call friend. But now, he had met Sha're, spoken with her. And yet, he had seen the Horus guards surrounding Nagada, the ha'tak over the Stargate. If Teal'c did not act, they would all perish. Emotion choked his throat as he fought to speak. "You know we cannot."

"I know no such thing. Sha're can fight. We can find a way to get around the guards...we can go to Cimmeria!" The sharpness in his voice caused the infant to start crying. Daniel Jackson barely noticed, merely shifting his hold on the child. "Why didn't I think of it before?! Thor's Hammer must be erected by now – and you're safe from it. Or if not, maybe the Asgard would still be there and could remove the Goa'uld. It's so obvious."

The team narrowly escapes hugmonsters, only to realize that Blue and his fellow balls of fluff had other intentions in mind...

Hilarious multi-armed aliens, perilous pollen, and Hammond and Janet in fine form - and lots and lots of hugs!

This is the perfect fic to put a smile on your face.

"What happened, Colonel?" General Hammond demanded, striding into the embarkation room and through the ranks of SFs as the closed iris was ... well, irising back open.

"Hostiles, sir," Jack replied, watching the bristling array of weapons droop at a gesture from Hammond. They put him in mind of porcupines' spines. Not fur. Emphatically not fur. "Big ... hostile ... hostiles."

"They were not hostile," Daniel said. He was trying to rake his tousled hair into submission and shrug his uniform back into a semblance of symmetry at the same time, which combined into a kind of spastic wriggling motion that didn't lend a lot of gravitas to his objection. "If you'd just given me a chance to -- "

"To get the life squished out of you?" Jack shot back.

"There was a significant degree of jeopardy," Teal'c said. He looked down at himself with some distaste, and brushed ineffectually at his tac vest. "And dander." His uniform was disarrayed too, but he still had gravitas. Maybe because he had no hair to tousle.

Carter looked pained as Hammond's glare shifted to her in clear expectation of more sense than he was getting from the other three. "Sir," she said smartly, drawing herself up straight. She was the most tousled of all. Probably because she had the most hair.

"Captain," Hammond said, in a low, warning drawl.

"Sir," she said again, helplessly.

Enunciating with care, Hammond said, "What kind of hostiles, Captain Carter?"

Carter sighed -- it sounded exactly like Jack's sigh, Jack thought, she had the sigh thing down pat, gonna be a great CO one day, if they weren't both cashiered for silliness unbecoming of yadda in the next sixty seconds -- and said, "Hugmonsters, sir."

He's located a hockey game – quite a feat given that she parental-locked those channels. Teal'c is exercising his subtle but gravitationally strong will, and sooner or later they'll find themselves watching one of the DVDs he brought. Daniel is riffling through her magazine rack, either in search of something to read or something to hit Jack with, she's not certain.

Daniel finds last Sunday's paper, and whaps Jack over the back of the skull, answering that question. "Hey!" When Jack turns to deal with Daniel, Teal'c steals the remote. "HEY!"

"Give it up, sir, you're outnumbered," she advises, kicking feet out of the way so she can put the chips down. Daniel leaps up and runs for the safety of the kitchen.

"Drinks?" he calls.

"A cranberry juice."

"Coke, please."

"Beer!" Sam looks at the soon-to-be-Major General, and then at his slightly-spreading waistline. He gives her a blank look in return. "On second thoughts, make that another juice," he yells, nevertheless. Sam settles into her armchair with a smug smile.

There is team squabbling and team bonding (or possibly both at once). Most of all, there is lots and lots of cake... even if, as Jack claims, he will sometimes choose pie. :)

This is one big squishy hug to Jack and SG-1, so go and read, and smile!

Daniel said, "There's rumors you sent General Landry cake as a welcome to the SGC gift."

He knew he should've had Siler deliver it. Walter had a big mouth.

"You even delivered cake to me in the infirmary when I was first got back from... " Daniel seemed to realize his mistake as soon as he brought it up. "The Dakara battle."

"Hey, when you came back from glowy-land, that was getting a whole new body so it counts as a birthday. You were even dressed for the occasion." He tried not to gloat at the point he scored from Daniel's blush. "Cakes for birthdays are traditional."

"There's nothing wrong with liking cake, sir." Carter smiled. "We find it endearing."

"And predictable." Jack was not complaining, just...clarifying.

"There's worse things to be known for, O'Neill." Salieri includes marvelous stage dressing, sharp dialogue, and the creeping, horrifying realization of things that are done in the course of a war... and what happens to those caught in the fallout.

Read this one slowly, and then wonder if you'll ever look at the word "interface" in the same way again.

He was swiping his card to call the elevator when he realized she wasn't behind him anymore. "What?"

"I don't want to visit the Tok'ra."

"Of course you do." He waved her toward the elevator with his file folder and when she didn't move he waved her toward the elevator with his file folder a little more emphatically. "You like the Tok'ra."

Over his head, a red light started flashing and Walter's voice announced the offworld activation he was now late for.

"Really," Vala said to the floor. "I like the Tok'ra. I don't know why you'd have that impression."

Giving up on waving the file folder, he let it fall with a slap against his thigh. "Because they saved you? Extracted the symbiote?"

"Yes. Of course." She breezed past him. "Eventually."

Crazedturkey traces four times Janet deals with wounds on SG-1 over the years... and one last wound that never really gets the chance to heal, in both the literal and metaphorical sense of the word.

This is written with empathy, with sensitivity, with classic Janet characterization, and a final grievous section that will move you close to tears. I've been waiting for the chance to rec this one; go read it, and savor.

Sam squeezed her eyes shut. “Every time I close my eyes I see him, chasing me.”

“The super soldier?”

Sam nodded.

“How long has that been happening?”

“Every night since I got out of here,” Sam took a shuddering breath. “It’s so stupid.”

“It’s not stupid.”

“Yes, it is,” Sam said. Tears filled her eyes and she dashed them away angrily. “You don’t see Colonel O’Neill in here crying do you?”

It was moments like this when Janet wished she could break doctor patient confidentiality. It might have really helped her friend.

Instead she reached out and took Sam’s hand in her own. “What do you want me to do, Sam?”

Sam’s face was very still and her eyes were shut. Tears were coursing silently down her cheeks. “Help me,” she said, finally.

Janet smiled and squeezed her friend’s hand. “That I can do.”

You will be moved by his thoughts on the Tau'ri, the little metal box of keepsakes he carries, and the final momento he takes from Earth, to serve as its legacy in the stars.

Despite being apocafic, this is almost gentle, and perfectly Teal'c... and you'll finish reading it with a smile.

The town was blessedly free of zombies. The sand had moved in already, sloping up the curbs and coating the windows of the storefronts. In the distance he could hear the sharp snap of a tattered flag in the wind, the faint ring of metal on metal.

The gift shops held postcards of Thor-like aliens, bright green and smiling in welcome. He took one with a self-satisfied smirk. Greetings from Planet Earth! it said.

Maybe he could send one to the Tollan. Greetings from Planet Earth! Alien in need of ride. Zombies have taken over, please come soon. Bring donuts.

Irony. O’Neill would have been pleased.

He glanced down the street and rested his eyes on the Krispy Kreme sign. His mouth watered in sympathy.

With the P-90 resting on his hip, he walked down the deserted street toward the donut shop.

The fact that everyone they passed by froze in their place and stared with awe only made it better. The fact John called Clark ‘Clark’ and Clark answered every time was even more awesome. The fact that they were followed everywhere by a small gaggle of scientists who were too scared to ask questions but too excited to stay away... well, frankly, that was a bit annoying. At a certain point John was forced to turn and say, “Okay, weird guys following us around, ground rules: you can tag along as long as you’re within a three-minute run of your work stations. You can ask for autographs. You can’t shoot Ancient darts at Superman just to see if his skin breaks -- guys, it’s impolite, and also they ricochet. And most importantly: please, no touching the Batman.” He paused. “I will not stop him from cutting off your fingers.”

They stayed back after that.

Artaxastra does a superb job of portraying the young lieutenant who met four strangers in 1969 and then spent a lifetime in wary expectation, until a photo in a file folder finally connected the past with the future.

This is dignified, classy, and almost sedate - in short, everything a George Hammond character study ought to be.

George flipped the first folder open and froze.

Twenty five years and more had passed since he'd seen that face, but he had not forgotten it. The same wide blue eyes and pointed chin, the same cropped hair that should have been unattractive but wasn't, the same determined look straight at the camera without the slightest hint of a smile. Captain Samantha Carter.

Captain Samantha Carter in the back of a van, handcuffs on her wrists, explaining that they were from the future. "General Hammond," she'd said. "You have to trust me."

And he had. He'd trusted her and a note from himself, a note in his own handwriting sent from the future. George -- help them.

And he had. He'd let them escape somewhere on a lonely stretch of blacktop through the mountains, and never heard of them again. They may as well have simply disappeared.

He'd waited. He'd thought. They'd get caught, surely, in those first days, those first months. But they didn't. He'd expected something to happen, but it never did.

Two years later, floating alone after bailing out, he hadn't wondered if he would die. He wouldn't, George told himself. He had a date with the future. He wasn't General Hammond, and he hadn't sent a note. So clearly he couldn't die alone on the gray water, listening for a plane that never came. It couldn't come out that way. He had a date with the future. Three days later, dehydrated and near death, he'd seen the rotors churning above him, the basket coming down. History ran straight and true, just like he knew it would.

And so he waited.
